Hi, I am 6 weeks pregnant and have a very bad cough. My husband and toddler had it and many of my 4th grade students seem to be coughing all the time. I m often coughing up yellow mucus, sometimes it makes me gag. It gets worse at night. Will my baby be ok?
Hello and thanks for the query, I am Dr Nilajkumar a consultant gynecologist and I will be helping you in your queries.
It is not advisable to take many medicines during the first three months as they may affect the baby. However infection itself is bad for the baby. I suggest that you visit a skilled obstetrician and get yourself examined. Some medicines like amoxycillin and cetirizine can be taken in the first trimester and are safe. So do this as early as possible. Meanwhile try avoid contact with people having infections, wash your hand repeatedly and maintain good hygiene in the house. Stem inhalation and warm saline gargles help to relieve congestion. Drink warm soups as they help restore energy. Hope this was helpful. Thanks for using HCM and have a safe pregnancy.
