Hi I am sexually active, my girlfriend just get herpes virus she got treated genital one. She had only sex with me. Can I get the virus myself since I got a sore cold recently wha is your advice? But concerning the genital parts I did not get any of the symptoms.
Unprotected sexual intercourse with an infected partner does pose a significant risk of acquiring genital herpes(commonly caused by type II virus).
However, since you are already infected with oro-labial herpes(commonly caused by type I HSV), therefore you might not get a very symptomatic genital herpes, in case you acquire it. This because Type I and Type II HSV share some of the antigens and there antibodies cross react thus imparting partial immunity against a different type of herpes.
