i was diagnose with syphilis in the 1975. I went through the treatment process and was told that I will always test positive. Lately I had some blood work done and was referred to se an infectious disease specialist. could this be a reoccurrence of disease?
Hello, Welcome to healthcare magic, There are different tests for syphilis. TPHA and VDRL are the common tests done. If you have had syphilis in the past, TPHA will remain positive for life. But if the treatment is adequate and complete VDRL should become negative by now. If VDRL is reactive then you should consider treatment. Hope this helped, Take care.
