Hello and thank you for asking HCM.

I understand your concerns and will try to explain in simple words what she has and what we can do.
Our urine is sterile, which means there are no other type of microorganisms in it like bacteria ect. In the moment that a bacteria enters our UT,usually from our urethra. Most of the time it's the Escherichia coli (e.coli) that infects our UT.Since your mom has high fever means that its a serious infection, but it doesn't mean that can't be treated.

According at what you have written here, i suppose that her kidneys don't have any sign of infection (pyelonephritis)

The doctors probably have done an urine culture since they know its e.coli so they know what kind of antibiotic to use to treat this kind of infection.

But you and your mother can help also to fight this infection.

-She needs to have plenty of juice, fresh fruit juice that have Vitamin C like the oranges, lemons because Vitamin C helps our immune system
-She needs to urinate as soon as she feels it .
-she can use chamomile tea,or cranberry juice to increase the acid levels in her urine, which helps to kill the bacteria.

For her fever she can use paracetamol or other antipyretics.

Don't worry, in my experience, these kind of infection are hard to be treated, but that doesn't mean that is impossible. She will recover in a few days probably.

If you have any other question, feel free to ask me any time.
