Need Opinion On Hormone Replacement Therapy ?

I am doing the zrt saliva test tomorrow and am unsure of replacing the minville patch. I have an appt with the pharmacist tomorrow and they will make me an appt with my doctor to go over my options. I am looking for your opinion on the hormone replacement therapy vs miniville. I was on estratest fr 10 years, then had my ovaries removed a doc put me on estra-noreth 1.0/5 mg strenth. is the zrt a forseeable solution to my mood swings and depression, hot flashes and unbearable feelings of worthlessness, my doc said that the patches was my last hope if that didnt work i would just have to deal with it. I struggle with the cost of continually going to doc for them to tell me that i am at my end of doctors care. Please tell me that the zrt wil help. I spent 140.00 for the test

Hi,
Thanks for the query.

I understand that you are having a lot of menopausal symptoms after removal of ovaries.

You seem to be having a bit of confusion about your current therapy.
First of all I would like to inform you that the test is not a cure or treatment. So the zrt will help in determining your hormone levels and response to therapy. Also when you ask about hormone replacement therapy and miniville, I understand that you are talking about using oral drugs rather than patches because miniville is also a form of hormone replacement therapy [HRT]. In miniville the hormones are given in the form of patches and they get absorbed through the skin as oral estrogen hormone is not tolerated by most women.

Having said all this I would like to tell you that this is just a part of the workup for HRT. Do undergo the test and if the levels are low, try increasing the dose of miniville. Also take care while applying the patch, press it nicely so that no gaps are left between the skin and patch and change it as prescribed regularly. If it is kept longer than the stipulated time, the drug is exhausted and it will not have any effect.

Meanwhile try other measures like eating soya products like soya milk and soya beans as they contain compounds called phytoestrogens that are helpful. Regular exercise, and low fat healthy diet also help. Protein powders like menopro contain phytoestrogens and can be taken with milk teice daily. Have a positive outlook towards life and if needed consult a behavioral therapist or psychiatrist to cope up with this situation and also get drug prescriptions for depression during this acute phase.

If needed, oral estrogen can be started to decrease the menopausal symptoms.

Please do not loose hope. This is not the end of time.

Take care and go ahead with the test.

Hope this was helpful, thanks for using HCM.
