Need To Improve Liver Health. Is Antibuse Dangerous?
Is antibuse dangerous? I had a doctor that wouldn't prescribe me it... but then again, she was such a hippie, she wouldn't prescribe me that single pill that they give you for a yeast infection. Really annoying. But I just want to know if it is a safe medication in general. Im mainly wanting to IMPROVE my liver health not harm it. I figured since I don't have a physical addiction to alcohol that it would be all I needed to just avoid it all together.
Antiabuse or disulfiram is used for those with alcoholism. It is not used for person with no history of alcohol abuse. It is not used for persons who wish to avoid not using alcohol if there is no history of addiction or abuse of alcohol.
This is the reason the doctor may not have wanted to prescribe it.
Like all medications there are potential side effects which is why it is only given to those who may need it. Some of the potential side effects are liver inflammation/ hepatitis, rash, lethargy , confusion, memory impairment, metallic taste in the mouth.
It is not advised that you use it unless your medical history indicates that you are a candidate for it and the potential benefits out weigh the risks.
I hope this helps
