I am living in Bangalore, and my sister delivered baby boy on 10th Nov 2013. Sir, today when tests were done then it was revealed that the babies heart has 2 holes, according to the conversation with doctors, they said they are small. Further baby is around 2.7 kgs, and doesnt take milk while feeding. Is this due to the holes in heart, and kindly guide us, about the treatment, is the treatment possible, what will be the cost, is it curable, as my entire family is depressed.
Kindly guide us

Cardiologist, Interventional 's  Response
Dear Mr Deepak I understand your concerns. Hole in the heart are of many types. They may be present either alone or associated with any other disorders. Holes in the heart may be eiher in the atrial or ventricular septum. If they are quite big they can cause feeding difficulty, recurrent breathing problems due to airway infection and congestion quite early in infancy. However, as you said the holes are very small(you have not specified the size and site of the hole). Small holes shouldn't cause feeding problems at this early age. Many a times small to moderate size holes close by themselves.I would request you to consult with your doctor regarding echodoppler study reports and also visit a cardiologist regarding possible consequences of the holes and their management at this juncture.
