New Born Having High Blood Pressure Problem. Reason ?
Hello my Grandson is five days old he was born at 33 weeks and 1 day his weight 5 pounds 3 oz now 4 lbs 11 oz he is having problems with high blood pressure it goes up to 124/70 at time they think maybe a small clot in kidney he has been put on medication for this. does is there any other thing it could be my Daughters water broke three weeks before he was born could that be the reason?
hello thanks for posting query high blood pressure in infants can occur due to some problem in heart or kidney.. as your doctor says there is a clot in kidney of your grandson, may be he is correct. i should say you can trust him and go with him. in this there is a clot in kidney blood vessel which occurs as a complication of umblical catheter. the average normal blood pressure in an infant is 64/41.. there are other reasons also for high blood pressure in infants as i mentioned like defect in heart, certain tumours, certain medications, inherited conditions.. there are specific tests that are to be performed for each cause. treatment can include dialysis, medication, surgery ... hope it helps
