Night Sweats And Nausea. Diagnsoed With Hernia And GERD. Done Cardiac Work Up. Something Missing?

I went to the ER a few weeks ago with chest tightness, night sweats , and nausea. They did a full cardiac workup and said that everything was fine, although I did have a small esophogeal hernia and gerd . I also have depression and anxiety disorder , due to the fact that I had been sick for so long. I am working with a psychiatrist for the depression and anxiety, and my acid and gerd seem to have gotten better. However, I am still having night sweats (usually once in the early morning), and all day nausea. Could my cardiac work up missed something? Thank you, GB

Hi,
Thank you for query and Welcome to HCM forum.

You haven't mentioned your age, smoking status, whether diabetic or hypertensive.

GERD is more prominent in patient with diaphragmatic hernia. Heart burn, Water brash, Chest tightness, Something in the throat, Nausea etc are the usual symptoms of GERD.

Chest tightness and Nausea can occur in both GERD and Ischaemic Cardiac Pain. Sometimes it is very difficult to differentiate because of similarity- both discomfort can occur in the central chest, "tightness" in nature, both can radiate to both arms, neck, jaw, back and upper abdomen and lasting minutes to hours often associated with nausea & sweating. I think, your symptoms are more consistent with GERD, as revealed by your full initial cardiac workup. So, Don't be worried.

Co-existing emotional stress like anxiety, depression can heightened the feeling of chest discomfort and present organic symptoms like nausea and sweating. Acid-suppressing medications like PPI (e.g. Omeprazole) and all Anti-depressant medications can cause increased sweat over 24 hours but may be more noticeable at night. Other causes include Chronic infections like TB; Malignancy, Thyroid and other endocrine problems, Idiopathic etc.

Effectively control your GERD with a consultant's advice and Be less tensed.

Hope, this helps.
