Nightsweats, Inflammed Left Arm Joints And Feet, Bruised Body, Numbness In Arms. Diagnosed Rheumatoid Arthritis. Suggest

Hello there, I am a 49 year old woman. I stopped having a period for more than 3 years. I still wake up every night at least 4 time because of nightsweats. My joints in my left arm arm inflamed ( my physical therapist asked me if I were in a accident, which I wasn't). My feet are inflamed (x-ray said: rheumatoid artritis) and most of my body feels like its bruised. The last few nights I am waking up because my arms have fallen asleep and it takes a while to get the life back into them. I am 5ft8, weigh 180 pounds and dont exercise much, due to the joint problems and hypermobility. Is this al related to hormones? I do take a multi vitamin and extra calcium. I try not to take anti inflamatory stuff because they give me a stomach ache. What can I do... I hardly sleep anymore, am in pain and am almost not able to work anymore. thank you for your time

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi and welcome to HCM
*I would like to tell you about nature of the disease so that you can better understand the disease.
It is an autoimmune disease, which means the body's immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissue and is also a long-term disease that leads to inflammation of the joints and surrounding tissues.
Yes as your doctor has said, it requires lifelong treatment in form of medication (like anti-inflammatory drugs, Disease modifying antirheumatoid drugs and biological), physical therapy, exercise and possibly surgery.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and informative and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care.
