No Relief By Using Minoxidil 5% For Receding Hairline. Will Minoxidil 10% Have Any Side Effect?
Hi, My hair are thin and hairline has been receded from front . I am using Minoxidil 5% from past 2-3 months but didn't got any benefit from it. My hair have further become less from the middle part since I started using Minoxidil solution. Should I switch to Minoxidil 10%? Being a stronger solution does it have any side effect?
Thinning and receding hair line in males is classical of Male pattern Androgenetic Alopecia (MAGA) also simply known as Androgenetic alopecia. Scalp hairs are genetically programmed for progressive thinning under the influence of hormones (Testosterone).
Treatment modalities include Topical Minoxodil 5%solution and oral finasteride. There are well controlled trials and US FDA approval for them for this kind of hair loss in males.
Minoxidil 10% can also be used though it is not USFDA approved at 10% concentration.
Higher concentrations can cause side effects like Dermatitis due to irritation and Headache due to vasodilation of blood vessels.
It is said to be more effective than 5% Minoxidil and patients who are not well controlled on 5% Minoxidil may try 10% strength initially for some period of time.
take care
