I had bad "hit" from my muscular little dog chasing the cat... at full speed, she slammed into me. No broken bones but, a large , terrible looking swollen bruised knot appeared. saw my family doctor and he put me on antibiotics.. I try to stay off of the leg as much as possible but now the bruising and swelling seem to be going into my ankle area also.... .How long does it generally take for healing ??? (I also have venous disease issues in my legs...)

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query.
The large swollen bruise is likely to be due to a hematoma formation in the area. Since the bony injuries have been ruled out, a soft tissue injury is likely. It will take 1-2 weeks usually for healing. You need to avoid massaging the area and take a mild pain killer for relief. Avoid putting weight. Do a cold compress on the area of injury
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
