Hi, i ve had a perineal repair 4 weeks ago and last last a stitch broke through, then everything down under just swell up and i m getting oozing from where the stitches has broken through, not only that but now the stitches from other prk of the perineal is starting to open up too. Im in alot of pain down under and can t sit on my bottom without feeling uncomfortable, am on anti-biotic but doesn t seem to help with the swelling, now i ve got a big flap of swelling and excess skin on my perinium, does this mean im going to need another surgery to correct the issue? Seeing my urogyno in 3 weeks, that s the earliest i could get in. What should i do i. The mean time?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
I am Dr Nilajkumar a consultant gynecologist and I will be helping you in your queries.
It seems that you are having wound infection. The treatment that it will be needed now depends upon the condition of the wound and can be decided only after examination. It would not be advisable to wait for 3 weeks as if antibiotics are not working, most likely the bacteria causing it are resistant to the drug. So you will need a change of antibiotics. Hence it is better to take an early appointment or go to the ER. A wound swab test will be needed to look for the offending organism.
Meanwhile I suggest that you clean the area with betadine lotion using a sterile cotton dressing. Clean with warm water containing few drops of antiseptic every time after use of the restroom and dry it with sterile dressing. Keep it open if possible to hasten healing. I am unable to suggest any ointment as I have no idea about the extent of wound.
So kindly see you uro-gynecologist as soon as possible.
Please do not worry. These wounds heal but they take some time.

Hope this was helpful.
Feel free to ask any further queries and I will be happy to help.
Thanks for using HCM.
Have a good day.
