Numbness, Tingling, Strong Sensation On The Top Of Right Thigh. Suffers C5-6 Degenerative Disease. What Is This Condition ?

I have a numbing, tingling, strong sensation on the top of my right thigh. Since I have a C5 C6 degenrative disc , an Emergency Room doctor thinks this condition is caused by back pain--a nerve condition.
I went to the ER because I take blood pressure medicine; and I feared a heart condition; not wanting to take any chances.

Hi,
If i may sum up, you have tingling and numbness on the front of your right thigh with a history of cervical degenerative disc C5-C6 and a known case of hypertension on antihypertensive medication.

What you are experiencing (also what the ER doctor meant) is most likely a symptom of nerve irritation. The front of thigh is supplied by L2 and L3 nerve roots and the most common cause of its irritation is a compression at the disc from where the nerve roots arise. It is usually accompanied by backache.

Over time, repeated daily stresses and minor injuries can add up and begin to affect discs in your spine. Minor injuries to the disc may occur and it is possible that it does not cause pain at the time of the injury. They may add up and the disc eventually begins to wear and tear and to degenerate.
A heart condition does not present with a pain in the thigh.

Consult a neurologist for this symptom. You may expect an X ray lumbar spine or MRI to be done.

Hope this helps,
Dr A Rao

Hi thanks for using HCM.

Numbness, tingling and strong sensation are all due to nerve problem. Since you have C5 C6 degenerative disc, the possibility of your symptoms due to this is more. You can take neuroprotective agents like gabapentin to reduce the symptoms and follw your doctor advice for the management of disc problem. This will solve all problem. Hope I answered your question. Wish you good health. Take care
