OTC Medications That Can Be Taken While Doing Ph Testing For Reflux?
What are some of the OTC medications that can be taken when you are doing the 24 hour ph testing for reflux? I was told that Mylanta was the only OTC that I could take. BUT will I be able to take prescription pain medication for the pain of the 7 days of no medication before the test? Does the 3-1 Mylanta/lidocaine affect the ph of your system so that you will not get a good reading?
Mylanta contains Aluminum hydroxide 200mg, magnesium hydroxide 200mg, simethicone 20mg it should not be taken if they are trying to measure the ph of the stomach. In fact all anti gastric medication should not be taken if they are testing for the ph. I advice you to make dietary modifications till then 1. Avoid smoking and alcohol 2. Avoid milk, milk products and spicy food 3. Do not go to bed immediately after dinner, wait for two hours
I hope I was of help
Regards
