On Losartan 50mg,BP Normal/below,white Coat Syndrome, concerned About Potassium Build Up. Please Advice.
I'm taking Losartan 50mg once daily. I believe my doctor has been mistaken to place me on this. My bp is normal/below unless I panic and I have white coat syndrome. I'm concerned about potassium build up. I'm avoiding bananas and sweet potatoes, but some cereal I eat has potassium along with meat and other foods. How concerned should I be?
As long as your kidney functions are alright, you shouldn't be concerned about potassium build up . Losartan is a very safe drug.
I want to ask did your doctor advise you dietary modifications and exercise for 6 months before putting you on hypertensives. All first time hypertensives with BP below 160/100 should be given a trial of diet and exercise for 6 months before prescribing anti-hypertensives.So, ask your doctor about this and tell him your concern.
