On And Off Pain Around The Backside Of Gland Behind Ear. No Swelling. Suggestions?

Hello, I have had on and off pain around the backside of the gland behind my left ear for about a month. It hurts to press on that area; sometimes worse than other times. Does this sound like a muscular issue or a gland issue? It does not hurt to press on the area in front of the gland; only the back. There is no swelling or other symptoms.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi and thanks for the query.
There is a lymph node behind the ear called the post auricular lymph node.
Inflammation of this node can produce pain.
Inflammation of this lymph node commonly occurs due to infection in the scalp.
Please examine your scalp carefully.
A small post auricular lymph node less than 1 cm is insignificant and can be ignored.
If the problem persists consult a doctor.
Regards, Dr Rajkishori.
