Hi,

Based on the information you were given Phenazopyridine and after that you are having fast heart beat/ tachycardia and you stop taking it because of that and wanted to know what was going on and should you keep taking it or not.

Phenazopyridine is a dye that works as a painkiller to soothe the lining of the urinary tract, and their are some serious side effects viz yellowing skin/eyes, dark/bloody urine, change in the amount of urine, stomach/abdominal pain, vomiting, fever, chills, easy bruising/bleeding, unusual tiredness, shortness of breath, fast heartbeat, seizures.

Which needs immediate stoppage of the drug and consult your physician.

ADVICE:-
1) Tachycardia is one of the serious side effect of phenazopyridine and please stop taking it.

2) Consult your physician and ask him for replacement of the drug.
3) In case of non-stop tachycardia please call emergency medical services for help.

Hope it helps.

Thanks
Dr. JAY PATEL
