On Ovulation Induction Treatment, Have Shortage Of Susten. Can I Take Duphaston Instead?

Hi, I am on ovulation induction treatment and on day 11days post ovulation right now. I was asked to take duphaston tablet twice daily for 10 days. and Susten 400 per vaginal for 14 days. Now the question is that since I am travelling and short of 3 tablets of susten 400. Can I take duphaston instead for these 3 days to maintain progesterone levels

Hi,
Susten is progesterone and being administered per vaginum, the bio-availability is more. It is used for supplementing the natural hormone progesterone. Duphaston is a synthetic, orally active progestogen with anti-estrogenic properties. It is also used for support during the luteal phase. It is not shown to effect ovulation, has no androgenic effect and is 20 times more potent than progesterone. Given all this, you may continue the medication, preferably at a lower dose, but in consultation with your doctor. Take care.

Hi booneti.shwetha,

Susten should be available to you at most places. However, if your doctor has advised you Susten and you are not able to locate it, you can easily substitute with Duphaston. Both are natural forms of progesterone.

As i understand from your post that you have been advised both Duphaston and Susten together. I would advise you to cross check with your doctor's office whether this is correctly interpreted by you and also to check what doses your doctor would recommend.

Hope your doubt has been solved.

Hello,

Duphaston is a progestin, it is mainly given for irregular bleeding, inferitlity, premenstrual syndrome etc.

Susten is a progesterone which is prescribed vaginally.

Progesterone is needed for the genital organ and prescribing vaginally is logically correct in maintaining local progesterone levels.

But no progesterone level in blood is actually monitored usually before prescribing progesterone containing drugs.

Any how they are prescribed for not wanting to take chance.

IF you definetely cant have Susten tablets you may have alternate progesterone tablets.

You are also 11 days from ovulation, so it doesnt influence your further ovulation in next cycle since you are due for your menses

Bye
