Open Gash On Thigh. Cleaned And Treated With Antibiotic Cream. How To Ensure Speedy Recovery?
I cut myself on my thigh and it's kinda an open gash. It didn't bleed too much after I cleaned it up and stopped the bleeding with a washcloth. I put antibiotic cream on it and covered it. It's not necessarily a deep cut. It's maybe 1.5 inches long and there's an indent in it where the skin separated, so it's wider. I'm just wondering...how should I take care of this so it heals alright? Should I continue putting gauze on it?
I am so sorry to hear about this cut that you sustained. Since it is not infected, keep it clean, loosely covered and avoid constantly wetting it would ensure that it heals without any delays. The antibiotic ointment is going to be of great help too.
However, if it should get infected(more reddish and painful or draining pus), then please get consulted and receive some antibiotics for treatment.
Also, if you have not been well vaccinated against tetanus, take this as a wake up call to get your vaccination status up to date and avoid possible infections with similar cuts.
I hope you find this helpful. I wish you well in and a speedy trecovery. Thanks and feel free to ask for more information if need be. Dr. Ditah, MD
