Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Pain After Drinking Wine. Having RUQ. Cause Of Pain?
I ve been having RUQ for 8mos. My GI doc says I m fine (normal US, normal blood tests, Hida scan BGEF 88%, endoscopy showed no ulcers , biopsies normal). I ve pretty much given up and just live with the pain (the symptoms read like a poorly functioning gallbladder ), but last night I had a glass of red wine (cut with water) and the pain was double or triple what it usually is. What would cause that?
* It is the transient rise of liver function to digest the load of red wine which is the cause of RUQ pain.
* The moderate amount of pain subsides over a period of 3-4 hours, if persistent and above a scale of 4/10 over the pain scale, requires medical assistance.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
