Pain After Fall, Difficulty Sitting Up, Tender Abdomen, Abdominal Swelling. Return To Doctor?
6 250lb Caucasian male. No health problems or medications . Fell at work Thurs PM. Pt states knocked the wind out of me X-ray shows no problems. After palpation , MD stated no problems with internal organs. Sat PM: achy, has a hard time sitting up, abdomen is very tender, some swelling on the left side of abdomen from apex to hip bone . Should he see another doctor or go back to the hospital?
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
Since all the internal injuries have been ruled out, the pain and swelling is likely to be due to a hematoma formation due to a soft tissue injury in the area. Taking bed rest, doing a cold compress in the area and a mild pain killer should take care of the symptoms in next 3-4 days.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
