Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Pain In Calf, Swollen Ankle And Foot, Bruise Around Ankle Joint. History Of Injury And Ligament Tear In Knee. Off Ibuprofen. Due For MRI. Normal?
I recently injured my knee. I've been to the er and the doctor for follow up. They believe I tore a ligament and possible other injuries. MRI scheduled for 3 weeks from now (insurance hurdles) I was taken off of ibuprofen and any other blood thinners because there was so much active bruising/bleeding in my knee. My question is, Today my calf hurts, my ankle and foot are really swollen and I have bruising around my ankle joint. I have not had any new injury. My knee is warm but not hot. I am wondering if this is normal, if I should be worried. I am 33 and have family (grandma/maternal) history of blood clots in legs.
Hello. Thanks for writing to us. The bruise around the ankle joint is suggestive of an internal bleeding in the knee joint due to an injury. A ligament injury is likely. MRI scan will help in proper diagnosis. I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you. Regards, Dr. Praveen Tayal , drtayal72@gmail.com
