Pain In Leg Of A Child, Bruise On Thigh, Appears Like Chunk Of Thigh Muscle Missing

Recently my 3 year old son began complaining of leg pain at night. I thought it was growing pains . Then I noticed a large bruise on his thigh. He is a rough and tumble little boy so I assumed he fell. Now the bruise is gone and the area is indented. It almost appears like a chunk of his thigh muscle is missing. Has anyone ever seen anything like that?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
I think there is swelling with collection of blood in thigh. It usually happens with child. If you are worried then get a ultrasound of the thigh. If report is normal then you will be assured. If there is collection of fluid then start antibiotics. There is no loss of muscles though.
