Pain In Middle Of Chest While Having Food. Had Hot Food Earlier. Will Drinking Milk Help?

I ate a spoonful of mashed potatoes today. And once it hit my throat I realized they were to hot. They went down my throat burning the whole way. I doubled over with pain. That was at noon. I'm trying to eat dinner now and when the food makes it to the middle of my chest it hurts terribly. Will this go away on it's own or do I need to see a doctor? Will drinking milk before I heat help soothe the pain?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

You might have eaten the potatoes when hot. This can cause mucosal irritation and cause esophagitis. This will persist for a while. Please try and drink cold milk to soothe the pain. You could get some antacid liquid from the pharmacy and take that too. If the pain is unbearable and you cant eat solids, you must see a doctor immediately.

Hope this helps
