Pain In Neck And Hand. MRI Shows Foraminal Focal Extrusion Causing Impingement On Nerve Root. Treatment?
Hi, I am getting pain in neck and as well as in my right hand.I am frequently feeling as current is flowing in my right hand.Be low is my MRI scan details.
"Right foraminal focal extrusion at C6-7 causing moderate to significant impingement on exiting right C7 nerve root."
Please suggest me what is the best option possible treatment for this.
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM. The description suggests that you have Cervical disc disease with radiculopathy resulting in pain in the neck and tingling/numbness down the limb.
The initial management for this problem is conservative - *avoid using bulky pillows beneath the head * use of a cervical collar * Physiotherapy for your neck muscles * analgesics & muscle relaxants as and when necessary * Use of neurotropic vitamins ( especially methylcobalamine )
As you have an "extruded" disc fragment causing compression over the C7 nerve root, it is less likely to respond to conservative management.
I personally feel that you may need a surgical decompression.
