Pain In The Chest And Blisters On The Hand After Getting An Electric Shock. Is The Chest Pain Related To The Shock?
I had an electrical shock of 240 volts that lasted maybe 6 seconds. The burning was done to my hand (leaving instant blisters and now 3 weeks later a black wound after the blister has gone). After the shock happened my chest hurt the worst. It felt like it was burning and squeezing. I have not seen a doctor and am still experiencing a dull pain on the left side of my chest. Could this chest pain be a lingering effect of the shock or something unrelated? How concerned should I be, and when do you suggest I see my physician?
Thank you for stating your concerns
High voltage shock might not only result in visible lesion but also can lead to internal organ injuries, it could be from simple soreness from muscle contraction to even some tissue burns, since you're having chest pain maybe some of the muscles in the area got affected, and also it wouldn't hurt to get a heart examination with an EKG to asses no damage. Further physical examination should be performed when you have a chance specially if the symptoms persist.
If you have any more questions please feel free to ask.
Best Regards
Dr. Aguilera
