Pain Near Left Nipple, Discomfort While Sleeping, Pain Occurs Frequently. Causes And Cure?

I m a 32 year old male. Starting a few weeks ago, while sitting playing video games, I noticed a little pain in the region of my left nipple . It comes and goes since. Occasionally (well, once or twice), BAD pain coming RIGHT FROM THE NIPPLE awakens me from sleep and has me holding it, wincing, and saying Aarrgghh!! in pain. What could possible cause this??
