Pain, Swelling In The Area Where Gum And Cheeks Meet. Suggestions?

off and on for the last couple of weeks I have had a pain inside my mouth where the gum and your cheek come together on my left side. Yesterday it came back and today I woke up to it hurting more than it ever has and my wife noticed I am very swollen on that side. It doesnt seem to be anything from my teeth ... any suggestions?

Hi,
Thank you for your query.
The swelling that you mention could be due to multiple reasons. There's a possibility that a tooth may be infected and thereby causing periapical abscess on the left side. Sometimes a dental involvement can be best clarified through clinical examination and xrays. I would suggest, you see a dentist for the correct interpretation of your problem. If a tooth is causing this swelling, it can either be treated through a root canal treatment or extraction, depending on the condition. If it is not so, then it could be due to a pathology of the mandible ( lower jaw bone ).
For the symptomatic relief you can take two tabs Ketorol dt, stat, dispersed in water. This shall take care of the pain. Further antibiotics if required shall be prescribed by your dentist according to the prevailing problem.
I hope this advice is helpfull to you.
Get well soon :)
Warm Regards,

dear friend
pain and swelling are sure shot features of infection .
now since you have mentioned intraorally there is no decay tooth but sometimes it is not evident to bare eyes , for this you need a diagnostic xray that will help you to clearly see whether problem is related to decayed tooth or bone damage (pocket) .so i would suggest you to visit your dentist and get a x ray done meanwhile you can do warm saline rinse two to three times daily and this will localize the infection. for your pain you can take
Rx
tab combiflam 500mg every six hourly
thank you

Hi,
Thank you for the query.
According to the history it could be cheek bite leading to inflammation of the mucosa of the cheek or may be a irregular or sharp cusp may have caused irritation to the mucosa leading to ulceration or infection in the teeth leading to abscess formation .
This can be treated after clinical examination by your dentist .
Warm salt water rinses , application of mucopain ointment , multivitamin supplement , and a course of antibiotics and analgesics.
Hope this information helps you.

hello & welcome
acc. to your history one thing is clear that you have pain in the vestibuli but you have not given actual site whether pain is present anteriorly or posteriorly.
reason may be your impacted wisdom tooth if pain is at the back side.
and if pain is towards front side this may be some endoperio lesion hurting you,so i will advise you to visit your dentist as soon as possible for clinical examination.
and do not do any heat application by yourself till than.
thanks & take care

hi and welcome to HCM,
As you have mentioned the area meeting your gums and cheeks is called sulcular area or BUCCAL sulcus.

Swelling in the sulcular area can be due to abscess formation , abscess can be related to tooth known as periapical or periodontal abscess.
ABscess related to gums due to infection in the gum pocket is called gingival abscess.
Cysts involving Minor Salivary glands may also lead to swelling in his area.
Periapical cyst related to roots of the teeth may cause swelling.
So exact diagnosis can be made only after clinical examination by a dentist so please approach it soon.
i would suggets you to get an OPG radiograph done which will show the picture of involved structures and helps in diagnosis.
i hope this informations helps you ,
take care

Hello,
Thanks for sharing your concern with us.
Despite no pain in teeth, Swelling is the sign that says infection has begun to spread.
Sounds like it very well could be an abscessed tooth and the infection may have spread to the gum and facial tissue (cheek).
you should visit the dentist. he wil take the X-ray and diagose the problem.
You can contact me again directly through my profile.
Regards.
