Palm Still Bruised After Icing Post Hit And Thumb Touches Little Finger Like Broken
My son hit his hand in hockey on sunday. He complained it was sore and we have been icing it. The palm is now bruised and the little finger hurts to bend and he can just bring his thumb and little finger to touch one another at the tips. Should I be concerned that something is broken? Should we see a doctor?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query. It might be soft tissue injury or fracture. Without X-ray, it is difficult to differentiate a fracture from others. I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. He may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance. In the interim, continue ice packs to the affected area,anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid lifting and rest well.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
