Passed Kidney Stone, Slurred Speech. Taken Diclofenac, Lortab, Toradol. Reaction To Medicine?
My 28 year old daughter visited the emergerncy room with symptoms of kidney stone...she passed the stone yesterday, but is experiencing slurred/slow/labored speech. The meds she was given are -- diclofenac, Lortab and toradol. Could this be a reaction to the meds? she also took some ibuprofen today along with the diclofenac. No Lortab since yesterday morning.
Hi, Lortab can cause slurred speech as it contains an opioid or narcotic. I note she took her last dose of Lortab yesterday morning but it may have had a prolonged effect especially if she had been taking repeated doses. I think the worst of her pain may now subside if she has passed the stone therefore she may not need the maximum doses of painkillers. Doclofenac, ibuprofen and toradol are all non-steroidal anti-infalmmatory drugs and I would recomend that she does not take all of them. It would be advisable to take only one anti-inflamatory drug following the instructions contained with the drug. Avoid any further Lortab until her slurred speech ceases. Drink plenty of water to maintain a good urine flow. Regards, Dr K A Pottinger MBChB FRCA
