Persisting Bruise And Pain On The Ankle After A Fall. Bump Beneath The Bruise. Need Treatment?
A few weeks ago I tripped over a 3 flight of brick stairs upward. I couldn t walk the first 30 mins, rested with ice. I received a dark and heavy bruise with a cut line right on the ankle crease (when i bend my foot ) it s been almost a month and the bruise hasn t left (faded in color though) but now there is a huge/hard/painful lump-bump beneath the bruise. Still hurts when I walk/switch from the brake to gas when driving etc etc

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
From description , this hard lump most probably formed due to haematoma formation (collection of blood) which might get fibrosed or calcified.
It will take few weeks to months to get disappear.
I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination of swelling. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance.
Meanwhile give hot fomatation over it, You can take Tablet Motrin 1 tablet with food as and when required (upto 4 tablets daily).
I hope this is helpful to you.
Regards.
Dr Saurabh Gupta.
