Pop In Right Side Below Ribs Followed By Severe Pain. History Of Fall Landing On Right Side. On Chemo. Advice

My husband, 47 yrs old, is getting chemo and is very weak. A few days ago, he fell on the stairs and landed on his right side and right elbow. It didn't appear he fractured any bones. I started with a cold compress then later used a gentle rub of ointment with heat. Today, as I rubbed, I felt a shift or pop on his right side below the rib area. Sine then he has been in excruciating pain but refuse to go to the hospital. What was that pop and what should I do?

Hi,

Most probably it could be a hematoma. I would suggest to send him to hospital to evaluate his condition.

Keep in mind that when an accident (trauma) is happening, usually, doctors wait for 24 hours to give the right prognosis. This is the right time for problems to appear as in the case of your husband.

I would suggest to stop using heat ointments; instead, you can continue with cold compress. However, it is compulsory to send him at hospital as his case is very delicate to treat.

Hope it helped!
