Pre-diabetic, High Fasting Blood Sugar. Family History Of Type 2 Diabetes. Treatment?
Hello. I have a family history of diabetes . Type 2. My hbA1C result in March of this year was 58 & by June it was 44. ( My Dr.had hoped with diet & exercise I would bring it down below 50. As 40 was normal, I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic ). I have normal random blood sugar readings but notice my fasting blood sugar is getting high again. Between 126 -133 mg/dl. Not sure what is best as I read a lot about snacks before bedtime etc which may help my fasting blood sugar ?
Yu are either suffering from IFG(impaired fasting glucose) or full fledged type 2 dm....
It is moreprobable that you might have developed full fledged diabetes as you fbs had crossed the limit of 126mg/dl..but since your hba1c was showing a dip.
My sugestion that in such a condition get your self 75gms OGTT(oral glucose tolerance test) which will clear the picture and give a bettter diagnosis.
based on that we can decide the further course of treatment..
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
You are suffering from diabetes as your fasting blood sugar is >126 mg% and your HbA1c Is also high.
You should also go for postprandial blood sugar.
You should also consult with physician and endocrinologist.
Thanks,
Dr. Mayank Bhargava
