Pregnant. Diagnosed With Hypothyroidism, Abnormal TSH Level. On Levothyroxine. What Seems Like The Problem?
Hi Doctor, My wife was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in Jan 2013 for which she started medication of 25MCG Levothyroxine as prescribed by doctor. The tsh level was 11 at this time. In Feb she became pregnant and by March/ April her tsh level came down to 3.3. Primary physician was aware of her pregnancy and recommended to continue the same dose and by end of June tsh was 4.3. Again the primary physician told us to continue with same dose saying everythg is normal. In july i moved to a new place and got the records transferred to new medical center with new gynaec and family physician. When we checked the tsh in Mid Sep, it was 8.4 and it raised an alarm with new physicain after which she recommended to visit endocrinologist who adjusted the dose to now 50mcg. My wife is in her 37th week and healthy so far with no issues.
My question is were the levels 3.3 and 4.3 normal which the old family physician claimed.? Is there a risk now?
