Pregnant, Diagnosed With High Bp Of 150/ 90. Echo Test Suggested. Suggestions?
Hi doctor, I have been asked to go for Echo test for pregnancy of 19 + 2 weeks.I have also been diagnosed with high BP, as per today the rating is 150/90. I would like to know few things here for the same: 1. What is an Echo test ? 2. Is it prescribed because of BP ? Also, my doctor is forcing me get admitted as according to her due to Blood pressure, the baby 's growth will be effected. Is it true?
Looking forward to a quick & favorable response. Thanks, SO
Dear user, welcome to healthcare magic. Echo is an imaging modality used to give an idea about you heart functions. It can be done safely during pregnancy. It may be requested to know if your high blood pressure has affected your heart performance. Being admitted in a hospital for high blood pressure is needed if the blood pressure is too high, uncontrollable, near delivery or if associated with complications. But usually not all pregnant women with high blood pressure should be admitted to hospital. High blood pressure may affect the weight of your baby making it smaller than it should be, but on the other hand these babies have nature lungs and are able to survive more than others. Also a catchup phenomenon occurs after delivery and the baby's weight is compensated in the first few months of his life. I wish you good luck with your pregnancy. Dr. Ahmed Bahaa.
