Pregnant, Had Chest TB, Cough. Advice Zocef Antibiotic Is Safe And Also Other Ways To Reduce The Phlegm Completely?
Hi Doctor, My wife is into her 22nd week of pregnancy. She had Chest TB 4 yrs back. Currently she seems to have caught a cough which produces a phlegm since the last 10 days. Initially it was very severe and she could not even sleep at night. Our Doctor gave her a course of Azithromycin and the cough syrup Alex-P. Our productive cough is less frequent now but has still not gone completely. Our Doctor today prescribed a 5 day course of Zocef 250. She s also taking steam on a daily basis. Please let me know if the Zocef antibiotic is safe and also other ways to reduce the phlegm completely.
Zocef belongs to category B drugs in pregnancy according to FDA. Means according to animal studies no fetal risk was demonstrated and human studies are lacking. So she can take the tablets. They will help in reducing the infection. She can continue the cough syrup.
