Pregnant, Loss Of Sleep, Chest And Stomach Pain Due To Dry Cough. Harmful To Foetus?
I m 20 weeks pregnant. I have excessive dry cough which keeps me completely awake through out the night. Also due to violent bouts of coughing my chest and tummy muscles ache through out day and night. Does it going to harm by unborn baby? Does the act of coughing actually harm the baby apart from the germs that causes coughing?
Dry cough is not caused by infection most of the times.
There are other reasons for dry cough.
Hyperactivity of chest and abdominal muscles may not affect the unborn child.
However, the dry cough should be treated. You can take syrup honitus for the dry cough and saline gargles for symptomatic relief.
However, it would be preferable if you consult your doctor to rule out the throat infection for which antibiotics safe during pregnancy will be prescribed.
Thanks and take care
