Prescribed Amoxicillin For Sore Throat. Have Sore Muscles, Bags Under Eyes. Due To Medicine?
Good Evening, My husband was recently to our local emerg for a sore throat. The Dr. prescribed him the following - to which the pharmacist questioned his reasoning. (as there was no diagnosis like Strep Throat - just a prescription) ammoxicillin - 500mg caps (TVC) Quantity 60 To take 2 pills 3 times as day. Now my husband is weak, his Muscles are sore, and he has huge bags under his eyes (which are really red). I know that Ammox can do this, but this seems extreme. Should he cut back to a regular dose of 1 capsule 3 times a day, and stop after the 10th day?
Hello, Giving a dose of one gram of amoxicillin three times a day for a sore throat and that too without any evidence of strep infection is really too high. Ideally antibiotics are not prescribed for sore throat since it is mostly a viral problem. In my opinion the medicine must be stopped as he is having huge facial swelling. You must consult the doctor for reassessment and change of prescription. Give him hot liquids and ask him to do warm saline gargles. Avoid cold drinks. Thanks
