Pricking In Chest, Heaviness, Soreness

Hello, I am an 18 year - old male. Since I was 14 or 15, I used to get this kind of pricking on the left side of my chest which used to be for like a second or two. It used to be infrequent those years. Last year, however, the frequency increased and I also began feeling heaviness on the left side of my chest and soreness. That same year, I was watching a movie in the cinema when I felt the pain and kept holding that area (which is what I normally do) and it went nearly for a minute. However, it ended for a month or two. Just a couple of days back, I got the pain again. Just to let you know, I have no family history of heart diseases and I used to drink a lot of Coke (Coca - Cola) which I have reduced considerably due to my assumption that that might be playing a role in the pain. Thanks for all suggestions.

Hi,
The pain you have described is it really pricking or heaviness? Does it increase with breathing or coughing? Is it there whenever you are excited or exercising?
If it is a pricking kind of pain more during breathing and last for about a minute then it is probably related to your lungs
If it is during exercise or heavy, crushing kind of pain it looks like its your heart. Ideally you can get an ECG done and find out if there is any problem with your heart. and get a Chest X ray to rule out lung disorders.
Considering your age and no family history of heart diseases you dont really need to worry too much.
Cutting down on coke is a very good idea and keep consumption to a minimum.
It may also be a very simple condition called "Precordial catch syndrome" which is typically pricking lasts about a minute or so and more on breathing and relieved on its own.
Hope this helps. Take care.
