Pus Cell And Dysentery In Stool Test In Infant. Prescribed Azithromycin. Remedy?
My baby age 06 months 07 days now & found positive pus cells by Stool exam shows i.e dysentery was found & stool color is green when her age was 4.5 months to till date. Doctor prescribed Azithromycin dyyidred usp. Five days passed already but it did not improve.
So, pls...if u any suggestion; it will be highly appreciated

1. Dysentery is continuing since age of 4.5 months? This means the diarrhoea is there for more than 1.5 months.
2. When was the stool examination done - at 4.5 month age or recently?
3. Is there any other problem as Azithromycin is usually prescribed for upper respiratory tract infection and not diarrhoea?
In case diarrhoea is persisting in your infant then the following measures need to be taken:
1. Ensure hygienic condition of feeding. Ensure that the feeding bottles are adequately sterilized.
2. Ensure hydration.
3. If stool examination reveals pus cells then proper antibiotic needs to be given.

Usually I suggest to give stool for culture and sensitivity to know the bacteria and its sensitivity to antibiotic so that an appropriate antibiotic can be selected.
Give oral probiotic and zinc in prescribed dose in addition to antibiotic.
Consult the pediatrician for follow up and for further management.
