I am a 53 yr. old female. I have been diagnosed as pre-diabetic type 2. I am approx. 45 pounds overweight. I quit smoking Jan. first of 2014 and I have been exercising at a gym 5 days a week since january (30-45 min hard cardio and 30 min weights). I have greatly decreased refined sugar in my diet and no soda or artificial sweetners at all. My questions are 1) why do I feel so tired/drained when I do indulge in sugar (i.e. piece of birthday cake)? and 2) Is this making it difficult for me to lose weight?

The lifestyle changes and dietary changes you have brought in you very good. the thing is give sometime for the changes to work on your body. Reducing weight doesn't occur rapidly. Slow reduction is very help full and longterm.
Feeling tired or drained is common in pre diabetes. It may be also because of vigorous exercise. So don't worry much regarding this. keep going.
