Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been experiencing severe leg cramps or muscle spasms for about a month now. I have been checked for blood clots with having an ultra sound on my leg. I have informed my Doctor and he seems to think that they are caused by me over compensating in my left leg for my my right one since I need a complete knee replacement. I have tried Hylands Leg Cramp medicine which does not seem to work. I also have been making sure to get enough Potassium and drinking water. Nothing seems to be helping. I have also had blood work within the last month. It was normal. I am a Type 2 Diabetic 5.6 A1C. I drink plenty of water. I am at a 10 pain level right now. ANy suggestions ?
I have studied your case. Muscle cramps can be reduced by Massaging the cramped muscle with your hands or oil. Drinking plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration. Stretching your leg muscles or riding a stationary cycle. Taking diet rich in calcium and potassium or oral supplements of the same. Check your vit B12 and Vit D 3 levels. You may need to add gabapentin consulting your doctor.
Till time, avoid lifting weights, you can consult physiotherapist for help.
Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
Wishing you good health.
