Recovering From TIA. Will Tanning Lead To TIA Or Stroke?
My neighbor and friend had a TIA 2 days ago, and has recovered nicely. My question is she is 70 years old, and tans in a tannning bed at least 3 times a week, all year long....Could this contribute to her having a TIA, and possible stroke in the future. I am an LPN and have told her on numerous occassions, about the dangers of tanning beds with skin cancer , but she ignors me. Thank you for any information you may be able to provide.
As far as I know, tanning does not increase the risk of TIA or brain stroke. I agree with your thoughts regarding its adverse effects on the skin.
The traditional risk factors of stroke include diabetes, high BP, high cholesterol, smoking and heart disease. If these are well controlled, and she takes a blood thinner (aspirin), she should not have a recurrence of TIA or stroke.
