Red, Sore And Dry Skin, Itching In Mouth. Applying Cortopin Hydrocortisone Cream. Is This Correct Treatment?

Hi, I'm having redness, sore, dry skin, and a lil bit itchy around my mouth. I can't use my usual lip balm anymore. It'll make it worse. And my GP gave me a Cortopin Hydrocortisone cream to put on that area. However, i'm afraid because its a steroid which might help to reduce this condition but maybe it'll come back as i read under perioral dermatitis description which i believe i have it now. Please I need your advice and help. What should I do?

Hello friend,

I will appreciate your efforts you put in reading the text. You have rightly read, the area around mouth is very prone for perioral dermatitis if steroid containing creams are applied there.

Firstly, the reason for the redness and itch should be sorted out.

I would like to ask whether you applied something over there?

When and how did the problem start?

What diagnosis your GP made?

Sometimes, such creams are advised by us if they are really need to be applied there but only after diagnosis is made.

So, better you visit a dermatologist or if posible , send a pic of the affected part so that i can help you to my best.

Till then, you can apply some moisturizer like emoderm cream twice daily over the affected area . It will really help you a lot.

Thanx.

Get well soon.
