Red, Tender, Hard Spot Below Knee After Being Hit By A Hockey Stick. Solution?
I was hit with a hockey puck while playing ice hockey. It hit me behind the right knee . I went to the hospital to get it checked out. They tested for a blood clot and found nothing. The bruise has subsided but there is a hard spot below the area that is red also above the inside of the knee there is firmness and redness around my varicous vein . It is very tender and hurts with movement. I have a Dr appointment in a couple of days, I just don t know if it is ok to wait that long or go to the ER.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for writing to us From description it seems to be soft tissue injury . Hard spot might be due to haematoma formation(collection of blood) which might get calcified or fibrosed. You need an x-ray to rule out any bony injury. I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance.Beside icing and elevating it, you can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid putting weight and rest well.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
