Hello I will try to be brief but detailed. I am 54 years old. At the age of 42 I had my remaining ovary removed due to an ovarian cyst. The gyn surgeon did a vertical incision (he did not take my uterus, said I was too young). Of course went into immediate surgical menapause. within 48 hours of the surgery the wound dahissed and my abdomen was completely opened. I was rushed back to surgery and closed up. I spent the next four months recuperating. God knows what it took to close my insides. The outer sutures were plastic rods. I am a larger woman all my weight is in my abdomiinal area. Fast forward to approx 5 years ago I woke one morning to vaginal spotting. I had had NO issues for all the previous years since that surgery that put me in menapause. My primary doctor sent me to a gyn who immediately did a D&C and found I had hyperplasia. I do not recall what type. He advised against abdominal removal of my uterus given my history and put me on Norethindrone. I have been taking it for all this time and bleed every month. I have not pushed the issue of other options of removing the uterus due to my phopia due to that horrific experience years ago. I was due to see my gyn this past September for my annual and he was going to do a biopsy to see if there was any hyperplasia present, then we would discuss whether to stay on the hormone or come off. Sadly he developed cancer over the summer and passed away just weeks ago. I do not know where to go from here. I am so tired of having a period at my age. Medically induced periods are awful. I should probably pursue other options but I do not know what kind of doctor to see. A regular gyn, a gyn oncologist, a gyn surgeon???? I am totally lost. I trusted my gyn, but I did not push him to for other options. Can you advise me as to where I should go from here. What kind of doctor should I see now?? Where do I start....I feel lost. Thanks for any suggestions or comments you can give me.
