Rock Fell On Hands, Pain, Swelling, Knuckles Green, Restricted Movement. Surgery Recommended. Any Other Treatment?
During hiking trip, bowling ball size rock fell onto left hand - within 3 days hand swelled purple and knuckles green. international doctor took xray saw no break and prescribed gel. Swelling went down during remainder of trip - 3 weeks but, sore ring finger unable to fully extend up or make a knuckle. Pain mostly in at knuckle near palm on top and bottom. Upon return saw american doctor - hand was put in a splint . 3 weeks later returned for followup: hand not better at all - still unable to make fist and have full motion of ring finger. Doctor recommended surgery - is this the only way to go? (fyi...no insurance).
hello,
surgery is not the only option for you." physical therapy" is. you are already into 7 weeks post injury and there is no fracture as suggested by doc, but if your finger had been fractured, performing surgery now will only add to stiffness.
now consult a physical therapist , apply hot fomentation, do range of motion exercises your self. you will certainly get better. do not worry.
take care.
