Severe Alcoholic. Had Massive Falls Due To Loss Of Balance. Have Constant Numbness, Headache And Suffer From Deep Laceration. Help?
Hi, My 63 year old boyfriend is a severe alcoholic and has taken 3 massive falls where he got two black eyes, a large laceration from top front of scalp to back, facial swelling etc. I've been concerned he may have a concussion. He has loss of balance even when sober (like vertigo), and many other symptoms that go along with a concussion. but what is concearning me the most right now is his constant headaches and now Numbness on the right side of his head and face where he suffered a deep laceration. Do you think he has something more serious than a concussion going on? should he see a doctor immediately??
In my opinion, there is a possibility that your boyfriend may be suffering from a sub-dural haematoma, which is common in alcoholics with recurrent falls. It refers to a collection of blood inside the skull, which pushes the brain tissue and is more serious than concussion. Please take him to a doctor as soon as possible, so that a brain imaging can be done.
Best wishes.
