Severe Bruise On Leg, Swelling, Lump Formation. Why Does It Hurt To Jump?
Male, 32 years old. During a soccer game about a month ago I had a collision of legs with another player. What started as a severe bruise with swelling on the side of my shin on my right leg, made its way to my ankle. Now i jave a giant lump in the original spot of contact. What do i need to do to release the fluid built up? I still have swelling around my ankle as well and the bottom of my calf is very sore. It jurts to jump. Thoughts?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Lohit K's Response
Hi thanks for using HCM. your history suggests there may be fracture or sprain. Get one x ray done to see the cause. Since the swelling is big this may be haematoma and need to be drained to prevent any infection and complication. Consult your doctor for further mnagement. Regards

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us.
From description , this lump most probably formed due to haematoma formation (collection of blood) which might get organized.
It will take few weeks to months to get disappear.
I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination of swelling. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance.
Meanwhile give hot fomatation over it, You can take Tablet Motrin 1 tablet with food as and when required (upto 4 tablets daily).
Hope this helps you.
Regards.
